The Senior Choir is a four part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) choir that contributes to Sunday worship services by singing a weekly anthem and by leading the congregation in hymns. The music presented by the choir includes a wide range of styles from a variety of composers.
In addition to singing on Sundays, the choir provides music for special occasions in the life of the church, such as the Christmas Cantata and the Good Friday service. We have also participated in events in the wider Barrhaven community including the Come Sing Noel fundraiser for the Barrhaven Food Cupboard, as well as an annual memorial service at a local funeral home.
New choir members are welcome. The ability to read music and/or experience singing in a group would be an asset; however, it is not required. All men, women and older teens who are willing to make a commitment are invited to join us. Weekly practices are held on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. Please contact Barbara Ackison through the church office for more information.
The ICO Youth Band
The ICO Youth Band was formed in 2012 to encourage BUC youth to share their musical talent with others within and without our church community.
The ICO currently consists of eight musicians, two of which cannot be classed as "youth" but do lead the group. The instruments included are B flat trumpet, B flat clarinet, flute, guitar, bass trombone, bass guitar, alto sax, drums, percussion, piano and vocals.
The ICO aims at playing for church services once a month, with rehearsals taking place either before or after church services on Sundays. The ICO has also played in concerts featuring other local musicians and choristers.
Other young musicians are invited to join. Instrumental coaching is not included in the ICO music programme, so interested youth should be taking music lessons, either privately or at school and be reasonably competent on their instrument, which they must provide themselves.
Contact Derek Uttley or Kirsten Baker through the church office for more information.
